The West Virginia Poison Center is a resource during a wide variety of disaster-related emergencies.

The medical experts (nurses, pharmacists, and doctors) at the West Virginia Poison Center are available 24/7, even during disasters.

Here are a few disaster-related tips:

  • Before a potential disaster, stock up on needed medicine.
  • In case of a power outage, do not use generators in an enclosed space, garage, or near open windows. Follow all manufacturer instructions.
  • If concerned about spoiled food, follow the advice: "when in doubt, throw it out."
  • If flooding occurs, venomous creatures will be displaced. Watch for poisonous snakes.
  • If cleaning up after a disaster, do not mix cleaning products.
